You can always park free in Lahaina town - grab a free discount book from most any store in Lahaina - in that you will find your free parking voucher. Just pick one up before you go back to your car !!!

Opinions...

Here are some internet discussions I stumbled across about various activities on Maui...

Hana

If you plan to drive to Hana for the day, you need to leave real early in the day, as it is a long drive. If you look at a map of Maui from where you are staying, Hana looks close, but you can't get there from the road going south from Wailea. You have to go around the island, beyond the airport to get there. The back road coming back out of Hana, looking like it will get you back to Wailea, is not the best way to go at this time of year. The road for the most part is a single lane and dirt. We are getting a lot of rain now and there is a lot of flash flooding going on here.

--------------------

My best advice if you want to see everything in Hana, is to go on a tour to Hana. Leave the driving to someone else and hear a good "Talk Story."

Bicycling down Haleakala Volcano

As for Haleakala, we went with the Haleakala Bike Company (www.bikemaui.com) and loved it. The operators were wonderful, the bikes were top notch (Gary Fisher mountain bikes!) and I loved not having to follow 12 other people and let them decide when I should stop and enjoy the view. They don't let you out at the summit, but rather at the entrance to the park so you lose about 3000', but I'm glad I went with them as opposed to a tour.
