make a dinner selection and put your names on the card |
|
 |
We
are booked !
 |
Alana
and I have now booked our trip and accommodation on Maui. We will leave
Australia for Honolulu (Oahu) on Tuesday October 15th, and then fly to Maui from Oahu on Thursday
October 17th. We will leave Maui back to Australia on Sat 26th and fly
out from Sydney next day for a short South Pacific honeymoon in the Cook
Islands. |
|
 |
Gift registry
 | We
have registered for wedding gifts at our favourite stores in both
Australia and the USA. For logistical ease, we would prefer
use of the Australian registry, as it negates the need for shipping.
|
 | In
Australia - Grace Brothers (not online)
Email them for a full registry list : MGB.GiftRegistry@myer.com.au
or within Australia call 13 14 43
registry # 519544
Though it is not online, when you email them, they will send our
registry list to you. Any questions can be emailed as well and they'll
help you with descriptions or any other queries you'd like to know. I
believe the prices will all come across in Australian dollars which is
about half of the American dollar at the moment (roughly AU$2 = US$1).
Grace Brothers is one of the top two department stores in Oz and they
have promised to go the extra mile for our overseas guests.
|
 | As
an alternative for our US guests, we have also registered at Bed Bath & Beyond - www.bedbathandbeyond.com
- online
Alana Yates and Paul Wright
registry # 764054 |
|
 |
Passports
 |
All
non-US guests... Don't forget your Passports!! It can take a few weeks
to organise so get cracking. |
 |
PLUS
- always take a photocopy of your passport and travel insurance
documents with you AND leave another copy at home with someone in case
of emergency. This has saved me once in the past - take my advice! |

Car
Rental
 |
See
our recommendation - Click
Here! (let me know if you end up using
this company) |
 |
Most
car hire rates do not include the following... |
 |
Rates
are subject to the 4.166% Hawaii General Excise tax, the Vehicle
Licensing fee (50c/day), (if applicable) Airport Concession Recovery Fee
and the Hawaii Highway Revenue surcharge, currently US$3 per day |
 | Insurance
- can be a substantial extra cost...
Australians should remember they are already paying for travel insurance
which will mean they do not have to buy much extra car insurance on Maui |
 | Any excess would be
covered by your insurance - no need to upgrade |
 | There
are 4 types of insurance you will be offered at the car rental
counter...
PDW (Physical Damage Waiver) - US$10-20/day (?)
Relieves renter of any financial responsibility regardless of fault
SLI (Limited Insurance Supplement) - US$10/day (?)
Will provide renter with up to US$1,000,000 coverage should a 3rd party
try to sue the renter
PAI (Personal Accident Insurance) - US$7/day (?)
Provides medical and death benefits in and out of vehicle. Provides
passengers with medical benefits for current incident. Some stolen items
covered. |
 |
Make
sure the car rental company is ok with Australian licenses. |
|
 |
Honolulu
Accommodation (Aussies)
 |
Tip
- using the "Entertainment Book"- you can get a hotel near the
beach in Honolulu (Oahu) for about US$60/night! Check it out!! |
|
 |
Golf
 |
Maui
is one of the worlds great golf destinations - but it is bloody
expensive!! |
 |
Expect
to pay US$80 at least for a full price round at a resort course. |
 |
If
you book a tee time after 2pm - it is usually half price. I did it last
year and got thru 18 holes pretty easy before dark at 6pm. Price
includes a cart. |
 |
There
are public courses on Maui for the locals. These are much more
affordable. |
 |
Should
you bring your sticks? It may not be worth it if you can only afford 1
round - but when will you be back on Maui to play again? |

|
 |
Tipping
& Tax
 |
Australians
may not be familiar with the practice of tipping in United States and
also how sales tax works. |
 |
Expect
to pay an extra 15% for every meal as tip - this is actually how waiters
get paid, as their base salary is low - so factor that into every
price |
 |
Drivers,
tour operators etc all appreciate tips too. Use your discretion. |
 |
Tax
- the price you see on an item may not be the final price! You will
invariably pay a bit more than the marked price in tax. |
|
 |
Telegrams
 | Those
invited that cannot make it to the wedding can send a telegram (or
message) to us via the Hyatt. Fax +1 808 667 4712. Email asanchez@oggrmpo.hyatt.com |
 | These
telegrams are an Australian tradition. |
 | The
messages are read out by the groomsmen - some are genuine - some amusing
- you never know! |
|
 |
Cheap
Hawaiian Shirts in Australia
 |
I
will be stocking up at Lowes - they have many Hawaiian shirts for around
$10. K-Mart has a good selection also for around $20 each. |
 |
Expect
to pay USD$20 for a genuine Hawaiian shirt on Maui |
|
 |
Camera
Film Sale (Australia)
 |
There
is some really cheap film on sale in K-Mart - around $13 for a
triple-pack of 24 exposures. Great price. Stock up!!! |
|
 |
Baby
sitting
 |
We
have found a couple of people who can help out in Lahaina and for our
wedding reception (as it is not a suitable environment for toddlers). At
this stage this only applies to Bryan & Lisa and Andrew & Renae
as far as I know... |
 |
For
Wedding Reception at Hyatt... book directly with "Happy
Kids" - +1-808-667-5437.
$16.00/hour per child (or $12.00/hour per child if siblings - hopefully
cousins will qualify...) |
 |
We
have also found a baby sitter that can be used at "Puamana"
townhouses and Lahaina. "Nanny
Connection" - +1 808 875 4777 |
